Basic Questions
-
What is Ganttzilla?
Ganttzilla is web-based project management tool based on Gantt chart and microblog. It is compatible with Microsoft Project and Gnome Planner files. It includes complete set of features for web-based creation, editing, viewing, discussing, tracking, versioning, converting, documenting, secured sharing and publishing of project plans.
Ganttzilla supports both deterministic and empirical (waterfall and agile) approaches in project management.
You don't need to install something on your desktop, just open web browser and go to your documents page.
Foundation of Ganttzilla feature set is online (in-browser) Viewer and Editor.
-
Why online Viewer?
If you've got urgent email with attached MPP document but has no MS Project installed... Or if you've just created amazing plan for prospective client but not sure if he has Planner installed... Or you're going to organize conference call with 10 software developers distributed over the globe ... Anyway with Ganttzilla you can view or share your Gantt charts with anyone using just web browser!
And another interesting Ganttzilla feature: you can use our service as versioning storage and discussion boards for your project documents.
-
Why online Editor?
Now you can not only browse your project plans but also edit them! You can create brand new plan from scratch and fill it with tasks, resources, relations ... Or you can select some existing document or version and add new tasks or people to the plan. You can track plan evolution through versions. You can rollback to any version and edit it.
With this feature you've got complete substitution for desktop tools like Microsoft Project or Gnome Planner.
-
Why microblogging?
Just click the bulb icon next to a task title and you'll see classical "What's happening?" Twitter-like field. You or any member of your team may now enter textual description of the task status, question or link to external document. "Current Progress" field holds current value of the task progress (in percents). Use it to report actual value of the task progress. Once you submit this information Gantt is immediately redrawn to reflect progress changes. So now our Gantt becomes agile!
-
Should I install any additional software to work with Ganttzilla?
No, you shouldn't. You just need a web browser with JavaScript turned on.
-
Should I install Flash Player to work with Ganttzilla?
No, you shouldn't.
-
I've got error message saying "You need to enable JavaScript in your browser". What does it mean?
Ganttzilla actively uses JavaScript when drawing Gantt diagrams, sharing and publishing document versions etc. JavaScript is a standard language used to run scripts within your browser. You just need to enable JavaScript interpreter in your browser's preferences window.

Operations with Documents
-
Can I edit project plan documents with Ganttzilla?
No. Currently you can only browse and share documents. So if you need editor for your project plans, please use any compatible desktop software.
-
How many people can I invite for private document sharing?
There are two cases:
- if you are subscribed on Free Account then you can invite up to 2 team members for secure browsing of each of your document version.
- if you are subscribed to Professional Account then there is no limit.
-
I've sent invitation to team member but he didn't receive it. What to do?
At first ask your collaborator to search for invitation email in his "Spam" or "Bulk" email folders.
Second option - send invitation URL to collaborator directly via instant messenger or email. Invitation URL for particular team member is printed on Sharing Dialog (use Share link of corresponding document version) in invitations table.
-
Why can't I delete document version?
Think about revisions as history of your changes. For version control systems it's unusual to remove certain revision and Ganttzilla follows the same model.
-
I can't create new document. Ganttzilla says: "You cannot create more than 5 documents due to restrictions in your Free account". What is the problem?
This is because you subscribed to Free Account. Under this account you have limit in 5 documents inside My Documents area. You have two options: remove some document(s) to free document slots or swith to Professional Account.
-
What is the difference between sharing and publishing of the document?
Sharing is a secure way to share your document revision with authorized viewers. It makes sense when you share project plan with project members and want to keep it private. None can access this document version except people you personally invited.
Publishing makes your document revision accessible for EVERYONE. This is NOT a secure mode of sharing at all. Publishing is suitable for open source projects, public actions plans, educational shedules etc.
-
What is the difference between document and version?
Document changes when you work with it. Think about version as a snapshot of current document state. Version is like saved game. You can go back to each of saved states of document at any time. One document has many versions. One version belongs to one document.
-
What is the difference between version and revision?
Revision and version is the same thing.
-
Ganttzilla shows my document with errors or distortions. What can I do?
Looks like you found a bug. Ganttzilla should work with any MS Project 98, 2000, 2003, 2007 MPP and XML documents and also Planner for Linux documents without any distortions. We're interested in detecting such situations, so please go to Support > Create Ticket and fill simple form with bug details. We'll fix this bug ASAP and inform you about progress via email.
